I bet you need a little brightness in your life right about now. I know I sure do. I’ve been craving all the foods that make me feel comforted and spark a little happiness for me during these weird and tough times in our world.
I haven’t exactly been in my normal routine lately. Even though I’ve always been able to work remotely, the virus outbreak has locked us all in our houses. I used to be able to work in different spaces and meet up with friends and go to the gym, but those days are put on pause now. I’ve had to approach my work day differently since I’m now confined at my desk for essentially the whole day.
This has not only affected my work routine, but also my daily routine. And one thing I’ve noticed is that my appetite isn’t as strong as it once was. I am trying my best to keep up my normal gym routine but with limited equipment and being weather dependent here in the Pacific northwest, it’s definitely affected.
I’m not eating as many meals – and that’s fine. I’m really tuning in to my hunger cues and making sure to feed my body when I feel like I need it. And not forcing anything when i don’t feel as hungry.
When I do make meals, I try to make them as nutrient-dense as possible. Smoothies have been helpful during this time because they’re easy to make and things can easily be added in to take the nutrient level up a notch. This blackberry peach chia smoothie is one example. The chia seeds add fiber and healthy fats to an otherwise the fruity smoothie.
Smoothies are also easily customizable. If you like your smoothies on the sweeter side, I’d recommend adding in a tablespoon or two of raw honey. If you don’t like sweetness, you could skip the honey and enjoy the natural sweetness of the fruits.
This recipe calls for fresh peaches, but depending on where you are in the world, you might not have access to them. In that case, you can definitely use frozen. But note that frozen peaches will probably be less sweet and might need the boost from the honey.
Taste test it after you first blending to decide how much honey you’d like to add. Make sure you pour it in a clear glass so you can see that beautiful purple color as you drink it!
