If I’m being honest with you, I’m not a huge fan of smoothies. But when the hot days of summer roll around, I like to whip one up every now and then. And this smoothie bowl is usually my go to.
Summer is the absolute best time to take advantage of the deliciousness of berries. They are in season and abundant and they taste better than ever. If you are able, try to hit up a berry patch and pick them until your heart is content. Then you can freeze them and they’ll be available for you to use in your smoothies for months to come.
This recipe calls for frozen berries, but if you have berries in your fridge that you need to use up, those will work just fine. Be sure to throw in a handful of ice cubes to compensate. That will help make the consistency of the smoothie thicker.
As far as toppings go, be creative as you want! We like toasted coconut flakes, almond butter, nuts, and seeds – but anything goes here. Also, you could definitely beef this smoothie up by adding in your favorite protein powder. I’d probably stick to a vanilla-flavored one, but you do you!
If you’re not like me, and you LOVEEE smoothies, we’ve got tons of them on the blog for you. Here are some great ones:
