June 20, 2018 By Joel Runyon Leave a Comment

beets

The Quick Answer Yes, beets are Paleo. Why Are Beets Paleo? Beets are Paleo because they are a root vegetable that is loaded with a variety of vitamins and minerals. In fact, beets are known to be a health promoting and disease preventing functional food. Researchers consider beetroot to be a promising therapeutic treatment in a range of health issues associated with oxidative stress and inflammation; their antioxidants are even considered to have chemo-preventive activity. Beets are a versatile vegetable that can be prepared in several ways, even eaten raw and added to salads or juices, but watch out for packaged beets that are ...

5 Tips to Live an 80/20 Paleo Lifestyle

May 23, 2018 By Joel Runyon 1 Comment

meal-plan

If you’ve been around Ultimate Paleo Guide much, you’ve probably heard of the term 80/20 paleo. 80% paleo. 20% everything else. The idea is that you can eat paleo and still live life. Most people go on diets and feel “restricted.” Paleo is the opposite - the goal is to expand your life - not limit it. Every now and then, if you want to go out, hang out with friends, get a drink or have pizza - you can - but make sure it’s only every now & then - not EVERY DAY. What gets most people into trouble is that the 20% turns into 30% which turns into 40% which turns into 50%, etc. Suddenly, eating paleo & staying healthy is the ...

Medium Chain Triglycerides – What You Need To Know

April 4, 2018 By The Ultimate Nutrition Team Leave a Comment

mct-oil

What Are Medium Chain Triglycerides? Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) are a type of dietary fat. Dietary fats consist of molecules made up of carbon atoms. These individual carbon atoms compose linked chains. The chains range in length from 2 to 22 carbon atoms. Long Chain Fatty acids (LCTs) are the most common form of fat consumed in the average diet. LCTs have chains that are 12 to 18 carbon atoms long. MCTs are unique as they have considerably smaller chains. On average, MCTs have chains made up of 6 to 10 carbon atoms. MCTs resemble the dietary compound carbohydrates more than a form of fat. This gives MCTs an advantage ...

Fructose is found in significantly higher quantities in fruits than in vegetables. Reducing sugars, which are a combination of glucose and fructose, are the primary source of soluble carbohydrates found within most fruits as well as seedless raisins. Although certain vegetables do contain fructose, it is in much ...

histamines

What are histamines? Histamines are a biologically active compound that is found within the majority of living organisms, from human beings and other mammals to plants, bacteria, and insects. Histamines are classified as being an amine, which is an organic molecule based on ammonia’s chemical structure. Scientists Henry Dale and George Barger were responsible for isolating histamine from ergot, a deadly plant fungus, in the early 19th century. Shortly after that, the two English scientists managed to isolate histamine from animal tissues. Histamines can be found within plants such as stinging nettles. The delicate hairs on the ...
