LMNT Electrolytes Reviewed – Sugar Free Hydration

July 22, 2020 By Joel Runyon Leave a Comment

I'm going to tell you all about why I love LMNT electrolytes. But first, let me take you back a couple of decades... I grew up as a sports-obsessed kid of the 90’s. That means that Gatorade was the drink of my childhood and teen years as most of my free hours were spent at various practices or sporting events. My go-to flavor was the light purple Frost flavor. I had to Google what it was called because it’s been so long since I’ve had it - Riptide Rush. I can still taste it when I think about it.  Get a Free Sampler Pack of all of LMNT's Flavors Here - Just Pay Shipping Ahh, nostalgia.  But after I Googled what that ...

Balsamic Marinated Pork Chops

July 20, 2020 By The Ultimate Nutrition Team Leave a Comment

grilled pork chop with rosemary and orange

You know my love for the grill year-round. But that love gets even bigger in the summertime. These Balsamic Marinated Pork Chops will help you up your grill game. The key to these delicious pork chops is to make sure you marinate them long enough. Aim for at least two hours, but if you can - aim for overnight. I like marinating mine in a glass container, ensuring that the marinade completely covers the meat. When marinating, be sure to keep it in the fridge if you're doing it overnight. The ingredients for these pork chops couldn't be simpler. And that's really where the beauty lies. For the marinade, you'll need a high-quality olive ...

Easily-Customizable Banana Chia Smoothie

July 13, 2020 By The Ultimate Nutrition Team Leave a Comment

This banana chia smoothie couldn't be simpler. And it's dairy-free and sweetener-free which means that it's friendly no matter which dietary preference you may have. I know banana bread was all the rage when we all first started to go stir-crazy in quarantine. But hear me out when I say that's not the ONLY way you can use up those bananas that are sitting on your counter. If you have a big bunch and you don't think you'll be able to eat them before they go bad, I like to slice them up and throw them in a freezer-safe bag. Keep that bag in the fridge and add in your bananas when necessary. That way, you always have a stock of frozen ...

Here’s a 2,000 Calorie Diet Plan (and why it probably won’t work for you)

July 8, 2020 By The Ultimate Nutrition Team Leave a Comment

2,000 calorie diet plan

A 2,000 calorie diet plan has long been the standard recommendation for caloric intake by the USDA. I can't claim that I learned much at all about nutrition in middle and high school - or even my Undergrad, honestly - (I sincerely hope things have changed...), but I do remember learning that 2,000 calories was a standard goal. Now, I have much more nutrition education under my belt. And it didn't take me long to figure out that a person's actual calorie and nutrient goal is completely individualized. Every body is different, lifestyles are different, goals are different, and that means we all have different intakes we should aim for. ...

Bacon Mushroom Thyme Burgers

July 6, 2020 By Joel Runyon Leave a Comment

bunless burgers on plate

This isn't your Mama's normal old burger. This Bacon Mushroom Thyme burger might look unassuming, but I promise you - the flavor is out of this world. Sure, you've probably put bacon on top of your burger before. But have you put bacon IN your burger? Add in some chopped mushrooms and thyme leaves and you've got yourself a burger that just won't quit. I'd recommend using fresh thyme as fresh herbs *always* taste better, in my opinion. But if you've only got dried, you can definitely sub that in. Also, if you've got another fresh herb that you'd rather try, go for it and let me know how it turns out. The key to making sure these ...

Chicken Fajita Soup

June 29, 2020 By The Ultimate Nutrition Team Leave a Comment

No grill necessary this week! I know we've been hammering a lot of grill-friendly recipes lately, but we're veering off course from that and bringing you a flavorful and filling chicken fajita soup this week. I love soups in the fall and winter. As soon as the weather starts to get cool, my body starts craving all things warm. I don't eat as much soup in the summer, but I'll make an exception for this one. Especially on stormy summer nights. Or maybe it's not even summer where you are. Maybe it's winter or fall or generally cooler - then you'll definitely want to make this one TONIGHT. If you're go-to order at your favorite ...

Recipe Roundup: Paleo Instant Pot Recipes

June 24, 2020 By Jacqueline Minnick Leave a Comment

Are you in desperate need of Instant Pot recipes? Lately, the Instant Pot has been my best friend. With many parts of the country opening up, some might find themselves having difficulty remembering how they ever managed their busy lifestyle pre-quarantine. Managing many tasks and errands oftentimes can leave cooking out of the question. I’ve run into this issue far too many times, which has led me to resorting to a spoonful of peanut butter for dinner or even quickly buying something from a gas station or McDonalds. Not only is this unhealthy, but these kinds of habits can put a dent in your wallet. Countless individuals can ...

Grilled Veggie Skewers

June 22, 2020 By The Ultimate Nutrition Team Leave a Comment

We're back with another recipe and we're staying on the theme of the grill because we love it that much. These grilled veggie skewers make the perfect accompaniment for whatever your protein of choice may be. Could be beef (our favorite comes from White Oak Pastures), chicken, pork, fish - these skewers go with it all. We're featuring all of our favorite summer vegetables on these skewers this week. Bell peppers, red onion, zucchini, and mushrooms make a wonderfully seasonal combination. Slathered in olive oil and coarse sea salt, there's no way these skewers are lacking on flavor. Not only are skewers a fun way to eat more veggies, ...

What’s A CSA? Should You Join One?

June 17, 2020 By Joel Runyon Leave a Comment

what's a csa

There’s nothing like a mysterious acronym to get you intrigued. If you’re here, you’re probably curious about what a CSA is.  Let’s start by unveiling the name: the abbreviation stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Learn the fundamentals of CSA: What a CSA is.How it works.Benefits.How to get involved. What is a CSA, and How Does It Work? Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is exactly what the name implies. A regular community—like yours—agrees to support a local farm operation in exchange for access to fresh produce.  Before the start of every growing season, members of the CSA buy shares of the ...

Keto-Friendly Lemon Herb Chicken

June 15, 2020 By The Ultimate Nutrition Team Leave a Comment

I've been craving all the summer recipes lately. As we move into the summer season, I want dishes that are fresh and light and herby. With citrus, parsley, and basil, this lemon herb chicken most definitely hits the spot. Chicken is incredibly versatile. But a way to make it even better is to marinate it. Let those babies soak for a few hours (I'd recommend at least 2), and then toss them on the grill. You will not be disappointed. This marinade is made up of olive oil, parsley, green onions, basil, garlic, and lemon for some tang. Blend all of that together in a blender or food processor and then let the chicken soak in that ...
