This isn’t your Mama’s normal old burger. This Bacon Mushroom Thyme burger might look unassuming, but I promise you – the flavor is out of this world.
Sure, you’ve probably put bacon on top of your burger before. But have you put bacon IN your burger? Add in some chopped mushrooms and thyme leaves and you’ve got yourself a burger that just won’t quit.
I’d recommend using fresh thyme as fresh herbs *always* taste better, in my opinion. But if you’ve only got dried, you can definitely sub that in. Also, if you’ve got another fresh herb that you’d rather try, go for it and let me know how it turns out.
The key to making sure these burgers stay in patty form is ensuring that you chop your ingredients up enough. So aim for finely chopped pieces of mushroom and crumbled bacon pieces. The egg will act as a binder for these burgers, but making sure your chop in fine enough will go a long way.
If you’re strict paleo, keto, or generally low carb, using a big lettuce leaf as a bun will keep this friendly for you. That being said, if you just like to eat good food, put that burger on a bun if you like! No judgement here from us.
If you’re celiac or gluten-free, you can also sub in a gluten-free bun. Canyon Bakehouse and Udi’s have gluten-free buns that I like. You could most definitely pair this burger with a side of homemade fries or a big colorful salad.
If you’re having a summer barbecue, double or triple this recipe to make enough burgers for your guests. That being said, in regards to barbecues in the time of Corona – please please be sure to follow all CDC and state guidelines regarding social distancing. If it’s not yet safe to gather together in your area, I promise this recipe will still be here for you when you can host people again.
Be smart and safe out there, friends. Enjoy!
