This banana chia smoothie couldn’t be simpler. And it’s dairy-free and sweetener-free which means that it’s friendly no matter which dietary preference you may have.
I know banana bread was all the rage when we all first started to go stir-crazy in quarantine. But hear me out when I say that’s not the ONLY way you can use up those bananas that are sitting on your counter.
If you have a big bunch and you don’t think you’ll be able to eat them before they go bad, I like to slice them up and throw them in a freezer-safe bag. Keep that bag in the fridge and add in your bananas when necessary. That way, you always have a stock of frozen bananas in your freezer for times when a smoothie sounds good.
You probably already have the ingredients needed for this delicious banana chia smoothie concoction. All you need is bananas chia seeds (obvs…), vanilla extract, almond butter, and almond milk. Some ice will come in handy too.
As with any smoothie, you can adjust the amount of ingredients to suit your tastes and preferences. If you like more liquid-y smoothies, you can cut down on the ice. If you like thicker smoothies, use frozen bananas or add in more ice.
And, personally, I don’t think this smoothie needs much more. But if you like yours a little sweeter, you can most definitely add in a touch of maple syrup or honey.
If you’re trying to get in some sneaky veggies, you could drop in a handful or two of baby spinach (your smoothie will be green – just fyi) or, one of my favorite things to do, some frozen riced cauliflower. As crazy as this sounds, it doesn’t add any extra flavor but it will add some fiber and bulk.
And you could go crazy with toppings. A drizzle of almond butter on top would look, and taste, great. You could also top with some shredded coconut for some crunch or crushed up almonds.
If you use some creative freedom with this simple smoothie, let me know how it turns out!
