Valentine’s Day is sneaking up on us. Some people love this holiday. Others aren’t so into it.
And I get it - the whole commercialized aspect of it kind of turns me off too...how the stores start plugging all the candy and balloons and other knick knacks as soon as Christmas wraps up. Meh.
At the same time, I’m the world’s biggest romantic and I love any excuse to celebrate - especially when it’s celebrating love. So I try to find a happy medium.
One of my favorite things to do for my partner is gift experiences. Taking a class, going to a concert, or planning a weekend trip are just a few examples of things I love giving.
For me, ...

Hot Pepper Roasted Broccoli
Unfortunately for broccoli, it kind of has a bad rap. Thanks to people cooking it in not-so-fun ways, it's become known as one of those bland, mushy veggies - like Brussels sprouts.
But for anyone who has roasted broccoli, you already know that it's actually dang delicious. My mouth kind of waters just thinking about it.
Sure - steaming it in the microwave is a heck of a lot faster...but the taste payoff is much bigger when you roast it.
This recipe takes the flavor up a notch. Using red pepper flakes, this version of broccoli has a nice little kick to it.
Broccoli is loaded down with nutrients that our body finds really helpful. ...

Seed Cycling 101
I was in my Master’s degree program for nutrition when I first heard about the concept of seed cycling. The program I completed was based around using food as medicine, so I can’t say that I was necessarily surprised.
During that year of study, I learned more about the amazing healing powers of food that I ever bargained for.
That was back in 2015. I never tried seed cycling myself, but I knew classmates who did and had massive success in doing so. The concept always stayed with me but I never took the leap.
Until now.
This year, it seems like everyone in the health and wellness sphere is talking about seed cycling. For women ...

Detox Green Smoothie
Have you ever eaten or drank something that tasted just like the color it was?
Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Or am I just crazy?
This smoothie is a prime example - it tastes GREEN. Like if green had a taste, it would be this.
I personally love smoothies because they are the easiest way to get a bunch of vitamins and minerals into your body in one 8oz glass. But the thing you have to watch out for when it comes to smoothies is the sugar content.
Even smoothies that are made of fruit can have a really high sugar content. It tastes delicious - obviously - but it can spike your blood sugar just like your favorite candy ...

Steak, Eggs, and Kale
Breakfast for dinner? Or dinner for breakfast? This is one of those recipes that could go either way.
If you're anything like me, you love a good, filling, savory breakfast. And this one hits just the spot.
Almost always, when prescribing nutrition advice to people, my number one piece of advice is this - veggies with every meal. That's when the question comes up - how do I eat veggies for breakfast?
There are definitely ways to do it. Smoothies are one of my favorite. But this recipe does it too. Combining greens, like kale, with protein and fat-rich foods can make even the most ardent veggie hater find them tasty.
Besides ...

Dijon Seared Pork with Roasted Broccoli and Brussel Sprouts
You know that dishes that sound so delicious and fancy that you're too intimidated to even try to whip them up in your own kitchen?
I've definitely been there before. For me, it's fish. I find fish really intimidating to cook. I blame it on my midwestern, land-locked roots.
This recipe might sound the same by the title, but I promise it's not!
This dish sounds amazing and impressive, but it’s actually as simple as smearing a pork chop with mustard and searing it in a hot skillet to lock all that flavor in.
When served with roasted veggies, you’ll never miss those high carb meals again.
Just because it's keto, doesn't mean it ...

Instant Pot Italian Chicken Breasts
Chicken is that *one* food that is constantly in my freezer. It's a go-to food in my meal prep routine simply because it is insanely versatile and tastes delicious in a million different ways.
We have a bunch of different chicken recipes on our site. We even did a whole round up post of some of our favorites. If chicken is your jam too, be sure to bookmark that one.
And then add this one to your recipe collection. It's literally one of the easiest recipes I've ever made. It takes just around 10 minutes and the chicken is flavorful and -most importantly - juicy.
No one likes their chicken dry and flavorless, right?
The best way to ...

Tuna Cucumber Bites
When it comes to parties, appetizers can start the shin-dig off in the right way. But here's the thing - I don't like to spend a whole lot of time on them. I'd rather spend that time deep cleaning, decorating, or putting some time into desserts (come on, you know that's my fav...)
So, I'm always on the hunt for super easy appetizers that I know my friends will love. I think these tuna cucumber bites hit both of those points pretty easily.
Protein-packed tuna and crunchy seedless cucumber makes a great combination. When you combine the tuna with onion, garlic, dill, and lemon, it really pops on the tastebuds.
When it comes to picking out a ...

Lemon Chicken Brussels Sprout Salad
These aren't your momma's Brussels sprouts. Long gone are the days of mushy, soggy, bland Brussels.
Surprisingly, Brussels sprouts make a great salad — they’re crunchy, flavorful, and super nutritious.
When paired with chicken, bacon, and a tangy lemon dressing, it turns lunch time into something you’ll look forward to.

Paleo Recipes For Your Kwanzaa Celebration
I'll be honest with you. I did not know much about Kwanzaa until I started researching for this article. I, of course, had heard of it - but I really knew nothing of its history, practices, or traditions.
It's a little embarrassing to admit that to the internet, but it's an honest statement.
Learning about Kwanzaa has been eye-opening. If you're unfamiliar with Kwanzaa, I hope what I share with you about this holiday takes you on a similar journey.
I think it's vital to learn about cultures outside of our own. Our cultural differences make us beautiful and unique and I also think bring us closer to humanity.
