There are two secrets to making this Hamburger Steaks with Stroganoff Gravy recipe incredible: apple cider vinegar and arrowroot powder. The apple cider vinegar provides a tangy buttermilk flavor that is usually associated with heavy cream and cooking sherry. The arrowroot powder thickens the gravy and makes it, well, more gravy-like and extra delicious!
This would also go wonderfully with a fresh chopped spinach salad and a rosemary vinaigrette.
Coconut oil can be used in place of grass-fed butter or ghee to make this meal paleo (rather than primal).
This is a hearty and satisfying meal that will make any belly happy!
Hamburger Steaks With Stroganoff Gravy
Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground beef
- 3 tbsp Parsley (fresh chopped, plus extra for garnish)
- 3 tbsp garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp Onion powder
- 1 tbsp Garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp Sea salt
- 1/2 tsp Fresh cracked pepper
- 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
- 1 c Onion (diced)
- 8 oz Pack fresh (sliced mushrooms)
- 1 c Beef stock
- 1 can Coconut milk
- 2 tbsp Arrow root powder
- 2 tbsp Bacon fat (or other cooking fat)
- 2 tbsp Grass fed butter (primal not paleo, use coconut oil instead to make this paleo)
Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, mix together ground beef, parsley, minced garlic, and dry seasonings. Form into 4 patties.

In a large saucepan, melt bacon fat and sear beef patties on each side for about 2 minutes on high. Set aside.

Reduce the heat to medium in the saucepan and melt the butter. Add in onions and mushrooms. Stir frequently to prevent burning and cook until tender (about 5-8 minutes).

Add in beef stock, coconut milk, and apple cider vinegar. Mix 2 tbsp arrowroot powder in a small glass of water (just enough water to cover and mix the arrowroot powder into a liquid) and add the arrowroot to the gravy. Stir well.

Reduce heat and simmer on low for 20 minutes.

Add hamburger patties back to the gravy and simmer on low for another 20 minutes.

Serve hot topped with gravy and garnish with fresh chopped parsley.
