What are Infinity Jars?

We get to review a lot of cool products on this site. There are so many great Paleo-friendly brands out there, and it’s fun for us to let you know about them.

We haven’t had the opportunity to review food storage products – until this point.

Infinity Jars reached out to us and asked if we would like to try some of their glass jars. At first, I was a little hesitant. What could be so great about these jars? I have plenty of mason jars at home, anyway.

But then I started looking into what sets Infinity Jars apart from your standard mason jar. And, there’s a few key factors that puts these jars above your classic glass jar.

Infinity Jars are airtight jars and bottles that are tinted a deep purple color to block out harmful UV light rays that can speed up the decaying process of the food being stored inside the jar. The glass that these jars are made out of is also thicker than your standard Mason jar.

This thicker glass and deep violet color ensures that whatever you’re storing in the jars stay fresher longer.

The science behind the jars

There are many different factors that affect the spoilage rate of food. Some of these factors can be controlled for and some of them naturally occur.

The two that can be most controlled for include light and air. When air interacts with foods that contain fats or pigments, oxidation happens. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that can affect the taste, look, and even nutritional content of food.

When light hits foods, the same thing can occur. It can speed up discoloration and vitamin loss. Light can also cause oxidation of fats which increases the spoilage rate.

Infinity Jars provide a way to combat both of these.

Infinity Jars and Bottles

I tried out two different products – a 500ml screw-top wide mouth glass jar ($24) and the 1L square glass bottle with an oil spout ($24).

The first thing I noticed about these products is that the glass is thick. You can tell just by holding them in your hand that they’re high quality. And, obviously, you can’t see through them. They are so tinted that you won’t be able to see what you’re keeping inside the jar. Thankfully, they send stick-on labels with your products so you can keep track of what you’re keeping inside your new jars and bottles.

Wide Mouth Jar

I chose to store Maca powder in the widemouth jar. Maca root is an adaptogen that can be supportive of proper hormone balance. It is recommended to store Maca away from light and humidity, so I thought this was perfect to keep in my new Infinity Jar.

I like that the jar blocks out harmful light that would potentially damage the the maca powder. I also really appreciate the wide-mouth of the jar. This makes scooping easy and eliminates the chance that I’ll get my hand stuck inside of it (yes, that’s happened…)

The 1-Liter Bottle

Obviously, the 1-liter bottle is perfect for storing cooking oils. If you’ve ever paid attention before, you’ve probably noticed that most olive oils come in bottles that are tinted. This is because fats, like oils, are especially unstable. They are more prone to oxidation from light.

I wanted to try out a bottle from Infinity Jar for this reason specifically. The Infinity bottle is much darker than a standard olive oil bottle. And, although I would never claim to be an expert in olive oils, it did seem like my oil stayed fresh and tasted great.

My Thoughts

If you tend to store a lot of foods, herbs, spices, or oils that are particularly sensitive to light, these jars may be a great investment.

While I didn’t use my jars for this specific purpose, you can also store any homemade skincare products in these jars. There are all kinds of sizes to choose from on their website.

Not only do they offer specific cosmetic screw-top jars, they also have items such as droppers, essential oil bottles, spray bottles, and roll-on tubes – just to name a few. All their bottles are guaranteed to have an airtight seal – this means no oxygen can get in (which could speed up the degradation rate) but it also means that no smells escape.
