Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
The Slow Cooker is a wonderful invention that does all our cooking for us, allowing us to go about our day without thinking twice about what’s for dinner. When pulled pork meets the slow cooker, delicious and easy magic happens. Our Paleo pulled pork recipe is so addictive, you’ll find yourself making it on a weekly basis. The homemade BBQ sauce is quick and easy to make and the coleslaw is the perfect topping.
This recipes starts by making the homemade BBQ Sauce. The base for the BBQ sauce is made from ghee, a class of clarified butter that originated in India. Ghee is also common in South Asian and Arabic cuisines as well.
A mixture of tomatoes, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, honey, molasses, chili, onion and garlic powder create a delicious combination for a sweet and tangy sauce.
Once the BBQ sauce is complete, throw it in the slow cooker with onion and the pork and cook for 8 hours until tender and easy to pull apart.
Once the pork is cooked to perfection, pull together the cabbage coleslaw to make the perfect side kick to this mouth watering pork and BBQ sauce combination.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
Ingredients
For BBQ Sauce
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- 24 oz Tomatoes (strained)
- 6 oz Tomato paste
- 1/3 cup Apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup Honey
- 1/3 cup Blackstrap molasses
- 2 tbsp Chipotle chili powder
- 1 tbsp Onion powder
- 1 tbsp Garlic powder
- 2 tbsp Ground mustard
- 1 tsp Salt
For Pulled Pork
- 3-4 lb Pork shoulder (trimmed of excess fat)
- 1 yellow onion (sliced thin)
- Salt (to taste)
Cole Slaw
- 1 Package pre-made coleslaw vegetables
- 1/2 cup Apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup Honey
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp Celery seed

BBQ Sauce: Add the ghee to a pot over medium heat. Stir until melted. Add the remaining ingredients to the pot. Bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Remove from the burner and set aside to cool.

Pulled Pork: Pour half the BBQ sauce in the bottom of the slow cooker. Sprinkle the sliced onion on top of the sauce. Place the pork shoulder on top of the onions. Season with salt. Pour the remaining BBQ sauce over the pork. Secure the lid and cook for 8 hours on low. Once the pork is done cooking, use a fork to shred the meat.

Coleslaw: In a large bowl whisk together the apple cider vinegar, honey, olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and celery seed. Mix in the coleslaw vegetables.
