Morrocco Method – Paleo Friendly Hair Care
People are finally beginning to realize that the quality of the food we put IN our body has a tremendous impact on our long-term health. If you’re reading this blog, chances are you’re one of these people.
But more than ever, we’re figuring out that what we put ON our bodies is important too. Our skin is our largest organ, so it makes sense that we need to be just as cognizant of what we’re lathering on us.
Unfortunately, many of our favorite products are loaded down with chemicals that are endocrine-disruptors. This means that the ingredients that make up products like shampoo, make-up, lotion, etc can affect our hormones. This is a big deal because our hormones help regulate so many different systems in our body. When our hormones are out of whack, a lot of issues can arise. That’s something we don’t want.
Therefore, the push for nontoxic beauty products is at an all-time high. And for good reason. Thankfully, companies are starting to respond with products that are made ethically and without harmful ingredients.
Morrocco Method International
Morrocco Method International is one of these companies. Morrocco Method is an all-natural haircare line that is vegan, raw, wild-crafted, and Paleo. What does this mean exactly?
Well, quite simply, all of the products are free from sulfates, gluten, soy, GMOs, and synthetic chemicals. Not only that but none of their products are tested on animals nor do they use ingredients that are purchased from suppliers that test on animals. All of their products are also considered raw – which means that they are not pasteurized or sterilized with heat.
Their haircare line is comprehensive. They offer products ranging from shampoo and conditioner to brushes, skincare, and even pet care. Seriously – the whole spectrum is covered.
Oil training – what is it?
For a few months now, I have been oil training my hair. This means that I have drastically reduced the amount of times I wash it through the week in hopes that my scalp adjusts to producing less oil between washes.
When you wash your hair frequently with conventional shampoo, it strips your hair of its natural oils. The sulfates found in the shampoo tend to do this. Because of this, your scalp begins producing more and more oil to compensate. This leads to greasy or oily hair. We’ve all been there…
If you decrease the amount of times you wash your hair through the week, your pores realize that they don’t have to make as much oil – which helps your hair retain its natural oils and stay more natural and less greasy.
You can start with just going a few days between washes and build from there as your hair adjusts to this new regiment. I am to the point where I go six days without washing my hair. In between washes, I use dry shampoo about halfway through my week. Dry shampoo helps absorb any excess oil that may be hanging out in your hair as well as give your hair volume.
My experience
Volcanic Powder Dry Shampoo
That’s why I was really excited to try Morrocco Method’s Volcanic Powder Dry Shampoo. The main ingredient in this product is bentonite clay which helps gently coat your strands of hair. There’s also aloe vera, prickly pear, and lavender powder. All good stuff.
This dry shampoo is a powder that you spread into your roots and use your hands to spread it throughout your hair. I have only used spray dry shampoo before this so I was a little unsure of what to expect.
I found it a little hard to apply the powder to my hair. I originally tried to pour it into my hand and then apply it to my roots but found it cumbersome and messy to do it that way, so I resorted to applying it directly to my scalp.
This dry shampoo definitely stiffens up your hair. I have really thick hair and this powder added another dimension of volume – which I think is awesome. That being said, it made it really difficult to brush it. I found it getting much more tangled than normal.
I’d also caution you to be diligent about tousling it through your hair. This is a white-colored powder and it can be seen in your roots if you’re not careful. But, if you spend a minute or two rubbing it through your hair, it eventually blends it. I say that with the caveat that I do have blonde hair. I can’t speak for how it would show up in darker hair.
Diamond Crystal Mist Leave In Conditioner
The other product I tried is the Diamond Crystal Mist – a leave-in conditioner and moisturizer. Morrocco Method says “This spray hair conditioner contains highly energized liquid crystals from the Himalayan Mountains of India, natural herbs and rare oils that sooth your hair, leaving the hair feeling soft and healthy immediately after use.”
Before trying this product, I would use coconut oil as a leave-in conditioner on my hair. This spray is great for me because it definitely doesn’t go on as heavy or as fragrant as coconut oil. It has a little bit of a scent but it isn’t overpowering. It left my hair feeling soft, conditioned, and refreshed. I found myself using this a few times a week compared to the dry shampoo which I just used once a week. I sprayed it directly onto my dry hair (usually after showering) and it seemed to work perfectly.
To be honest, I am still a bit of a newbie to the nontoxic hair care game. There’s a lot to learn and I’m still doing that. The one thing I love about these products is that I don’t have to question the quality. For me, this brings peace of mind and can allow me to use the energy I would normally spend researching this stuff on other important things. A win win!
If you’re looking for nontoxic hair care dry shampoo or leave-in conditioner, I would recommend checking out Morrocco Method.
