Grass-fed beef eaters, you have been warned. You will probably finish reading this article by screaming at your computer.
The price of corn has apparently skyrocketed so much in the last few months that some farmers are turning to alternative sources of “nutrition” for their cattle. Candy. Yes, candy. And not just any candy, but candy that is apparently, “not fit for stores.” This is the brainchild of cattle farmer Joseph Watson.
His 1,400 cattle are no longer feeding off corn. The prices, Watson said, are too high to keep in stock. So earlier this year, he began to buy second hand candy.
“It actually has a higher ratio of fat than actually feeding them straight corn,” Watson said.
Which is important, because all of the cattle will be brought to slaughter. Watson wants them to gain weight and by feeding them chocolate, it gets the job done.
Whether or not you love grass-fed beef, I think we can all agree that candy-fed beef is NOT on the paleo diet.
How is this okay?
