Spending hours in the gym is not the only way to jump-start your metabolism. Feed yourself with energy-burning foods to crank up your metabolism. Can this be true? Yes.
Your metabolism, or how much energy your body expends at any given time, is ruled by concrete factors like genetics and body composition. From spices and oils to healthy fats and proteins, here are a six Paleo-friendly foods that will get your engine going.
Peppers
Hot peppers contain metabolism-boosting capsasin. This spicy compound brings heat to your dish and also can stimulate fat-burning powers. Add a few jalapenos to your next dish or sprinkling some chili flakes on your next meal to speed up your metabolism—and add a little flavor to your favorite dish.
Avocado
This fruit (yep, fruit!) is a Paleo staple. Avo’s are known for their high-quality, healthy fats as well as their abundance of key vitamins and nutrients like potassium, B vitamins and even gut-healthy fiber. In addition to firing up your metabolism, avocados will keep you full until your next meal.
Coconut Oil
Medium chain triglycerides (MCT) make coconut oil a fat-burning powerhouse. These fatty acids can be found in pure coconut oil or extracted into super concentrated MCT oil alone. Add coconut oil to tea, coffee or your morning meal to help you rev up your metabolism, burn fat, and keep hunger at bay.
Coffee
Drinking a cup or two of coffee can help give your metabolism and energy a little extra kick in the morning. It’s really the caffeine in coffee that stimulates your metabolism and helps you mobilize fat cells, but antioxidants in your morning cup also confer health benefits.
Green Tea
While green tea has less caffeine than coffee, the metabolism boost in this Paleo drink goes a bit further. The antioxidant power of EGCG found in green tea is the real fat-burning powerhouse in this drink. It’s also believed that these antioxidants work in concert with the benefits of caffeine for a metabolism double whammy.
Eggs
Pastured, organic eggs are a Paleo staple. Research has shown that people who eat eggs for breakfast are more likely to lose and maintain their body weight. Rich in amino acids, eggs will rev up your metabolism and are a perfect pre- or post- workout food that will satisfy your taste buds.
