It’s a two for one special! Yep, two recipes in one post that go great together. The delicious potato is often the black sheep of the Paleo diet in that it’s hard to ignore that the potato is a natural food with no other ingredients that grows from the ground, yet not too many people want them around. So if you typically pass on the potatoes, this combo recipe includes a delicious cauliflower substitute. But let’s not forget about the steak! Thinly sliced with an Italian-style flair, this might just become one of your new favorite ways to cook steak.

Italian Pan-Seared Steak And Mashed Non-Potatoes

Ingredients
Italian Pan-Seared Steak
- 3/4 lbs Beef sirloin (or flank steak cut into thin strips)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 White onion (thinly sliced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 1/2 cups Tomatoes (diced)
- 10 Black olives (pitted and quartered )
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp Ground black pepper (fresh)
- 1/4 tsp Red pepper flakes (crushed)
Mashed Non-Potatoes
- 1/2 Cauliflower head (large, coarsely chopped or broken into small florets)
- 1 cup Chicken broth
- 3 tbsp Grass fed butter
- 1/2 tsp Ground black pepper (fresh)
- 1/4 tsp Sea salt
Instructions
Italian Pan-Seared Steak

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium heat. Add the garlic, red pepper flakes, and onion and cook until onion is translucent.

Add the steak to the skillet, browning on all sides. Use a wooden spoon or tongs to turn pieces as needed.

Stir in the garlic, tomatoes, olives, Italian seasoning, and pepper. Simmer uncovered for about 5 minutes more, stirring occasionally.
Mashed “Non-Potatoes”

Combine the chicken broth and cauliflower in pot or large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Lower heat, cover, and simmer for 15 min (while cauliflower is cooking you can make the steak dish).

Using the lid of the pan to keep the cauliflower in the pan, pour off remaining broth into a bowl and retain. Add the butter, black pepper, and salt to the cauliflower and mash in a food processor or with a hand masher.

If the mash seems dry, add remaining broth in small amounts until reaching your desired consistency.
