A Brief Guide To Paleo Supplements

March 20, 2014 By Justin Miller 3 Comments

vitamin D-supplement

To supplement or not to supplement? That is the question. To cut a long story short, for much of the population, nutritional supplementation may be necessary in order to optimize health and performance. The Standard American Diet (SAD) has left many of us with too much of certain nutrients and little to no sources of others. On top of that, because of poor soil quality due to destructive agricultural practices, our foods are not as nutritious as they once were. This is yet another reason why local, free-range, and grass-fed products are best.  Other reasons why supplementing may be necessary: Diversity of ...

Is Soy Paleo?

January 9, 2014 By Justin Miller 11 Comments

is soy paleo

Long story short, no. Soy would be considered a legume, which is not a part of the paleo diet. However, it's important to remind ourselves that the paleo diet isn't just about being "allowed" to eat this and "not allowed" to eat that. The paleo approach to eating aims to heal your body from the inside out, by eliminating as many toxins from your diet as possible, and by including more nutrient-dense foods which promote a healthy internal and external environment. Toxins include anything that can cause disease or damage tissue within your body. Unfortunately, with modern agriculture, it is getting harder and harder to eliminate these ...

Is Crossfit Paleo?

November 9, 2013 By Justin Miller 2 Comments

Whether you've just started this paleo thing or are a paleo eating pro, you've probably wondered at one point or another what kind of exercise is considered "paleo". As of now it seems that Crossfit and paleo go hand in hand. Head in to any Crossfit affiliate, and you'll most likely find that the nutrition principles they recommend are similar to those you would follow on a paleo nutrition plan. Even Crossfit's founder, Greg Glassman, describes the paleo diet in this quote found on the Crossfit website: World Class Fitness in 100 Words: Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to ...

September 14, 2013 By Justin Miller 4 Comments

The most important step when transitioning to the paleo lifestyle is just getting started. And yet it's also the hardest. Here at the UPG, we get tons of questions from people around the world who are interested in living a healthier lifestyle, but who are just not sure how to get started. We take the guess work out of it, so that you can get started today, and your transformation can begin. Paleo and Fiber

September 9, 2013 By Justin Miller 14 Comments

I often get asked about the correlation between paleo and fiber, so I decided to dive deeper in this article. Paleo and Fiber A few questions that come up frequently when someone is looking to transition to a paleo lifestyle are related to fiber: How will I get enough fiber if there are no grains allowed? Don't "whole grains" and fiber help fight cholesterol? Don't I need a certain amount of fiber in order to stay regular? What are the best sources of fiber if I'm going paleo? Fiber helps keep me full and is good for weight loss, right? A lot of the information you'll read about fiber is not far off base - fiber does ...
