All disease begins in the gut. - Hippocrates
In the next few years, you’re going to see a huge shift in how nutrition is approached. Instead of diet plans, fat loss quick fixes, and "eat this but don’t eat that" advice, you’ll start to see an emphasis on healing the gastrointestinal tract and fixing issues like leaky gut in order to lose body fat, build muscle, avoid chronic disease, relieve autoimmune-related issues, and even address issues like depression, anxiety, and Alzheimer's.
Since 2013, two of the top five best selling drugs in the United States have been drugs for treating digestive problems. It’s time to stop throwing ...

Is Coconut Water Paleo?
The Quick Answer
Yes. Coconut water is paleo.
Why Is Coconut Water Paleo?
Coconut water is a clear liquid found in the center of young green coconuts. Although most cavemen didn’t have access to coconuts, some did, and that is one of the reasons it is considered paleo. However, cavemen having access to certain foods doesn’t necessarily make those foods paleo. Remember, a paleo approach to nutrition is all about healing your body from the inside out.
Coconut water is considered paleo because of the beneficial nutrients it contains. Coconut water contains five key electrolytes that your body needs to function ...

Are you ready to learn about greens powders? Well, let's get started...
The paleo diet is often consider the diet plan for carnivores. In fact, one of the biggest paleo myths is that it’s all about meat and animal protein. Actually, the paleo diet puts good ol’ greens first. If we went old school on you, and broke out a paleo food pyramid, vegetables would be at the base.
Regardless of your approach to nutrition, vegetables should be your primary source of food. They're a low-calorie source of vitamins and minerals, making them extremely nutrient-dense.
Most recent dietary recommendations call for five to thirteen servings ...

Is Kimchi Paleo?
The Quick Answer
Is Kimchi Paleo? Yes, kimchi is Paleo.
What Is Kimchi?
Kimchi was first introduced about 3,000 years ago, according to a collection of Chinese poetry. It is believed that the word "kimchi" came from the Korean word "japchae", which means "vegetables soaked in water."
Kimchi is commonly associated with Korean culture, as it is a staple food in that part of the world (there’s even a kimchi museum in Seoul). However, today it is more often than not viewed as a condiment.
Kimchi was originally made with veggies and beef stock. The kimchi you are most likely familiar with today is prepared by salting cabbage ...

The Ultimate Paleo Guide To Agave
Feel free to disagree with me here, but it seems that every year another sweetener hits the shelves and is promoted as a healthy alternative to sugar.
Equal
Splenda
Agave
Stevia
Erythritol
Over the past few years, one of the “natural” sweetener darlings promoted by many (including Dr. Oz) has been agave. It is said that the Aztecs used agave nectar with salt to heal wounds, so it is often referred to as some kind of health food.
In my coaching practice, I'm often asked about alternatives to sugar for baking and for sweetening up coffee, tea, and other beverages. Some people want to know about the sugar substitutes ...

The Ultimate Paleo Guide To Kombucha
One of my favorite beverages right now is kombucha. However, at over three bucks a bottle, it's also putting me in the poor house.
I first started drinking kombucha a few years ago because I was looking for ways to improve my gut health after taking a trip around the world that left me with a jacked up digestive system, some rashes, and other autoimmune-related issues.
I knew I needed more probiotics, fish oil, grass-fed proteins, and fermented foods in my diet but that I needed to avoid grains, legumes, dairy, and stress. After consulting the wise and all-knowing Google, I came across kombucha.

The Ultimate Guide To Standing Desks
In 2011 the New York Times published an article called Is Sitting a Lethal Activity? The article focuses on research conducted by James Levine of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Much of Levine’s research looks at why some people gain weight and others don’t. He and his colleagues asked a group of office workers who did not exercise much to follow a particular diet, consuming one thousand more calories than they normally consumed. They were also asked not to change their exercise habits during this time (1)
What Levine and his team found was that even though participants were consuming the same ...

The Ultimate Guide to Cooking with Healthy Fats
If you’ve just started a 30 Day Paleo Challenge and are experiencing hunger, low energy levels, and sugar cravings, this article is for you.
A common mistake people make when they switch to the paleo lifestyle is not taking in enough healthy fats, which are important for satiety and getting through workouts.
Typically what comes to mind when we think of “healthy fats” are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats like avocado, olive oil, nuts and seeds, fish, and flax oil.
A lot of the fats consumed today are highly processed fats which are designed to be nonperishable. This allows them to have longer shelf lives, which is great for ...

The Paleo Guide to Dark Chocolate
Written with dark chocolate all over my face in Cerritos, CA
It’s hard for me to even write this post. Just thinking about dark chocolate makes me go all weak in the knees. It’s safe to say that if dark chocolate had fingers, I’d go Beyoncé and put a ring on it. Truth be told, dark chocolate is definitely my guilty pleasure and probably my biggest vice, even on the paleo diet. I’ve been known to eat it for breakfast, eat it while in the shower, and even dip it into jars of coconut oil and eat it like that (thanks, David Millar).
This post is dedicated to all the dark chocolate lovers out there and to the reasons that we should eat more ...
