UPG Reviews: Keto Brownie
If you’ve been to your local grocery store lately, you may have noticed just how many protein bars or healthy snacks are available to purchase. Not only can the sheer number of options be overwhelming, but it can also be hard to know which ones are worth your money.
Our series of product reviews here on UPG helps you wade through all the noise.
We were recently able to get our hands on a few samples of a new product - KetoBrownie.
What is Keto Brownie?
Keto Brownie was created by Nick who, like any successful entrepreneur, noticed that a product he wanted wasn’t available to him. When he realized there ...

Greek Chicken and Veggie Skewers
This Greek chicken and veggies skewers recipe is one that will please many palates at your next summer barbecue. With simple ingredients and minimal prep time, you can spend less time grilling and more time soaking up the sun with your guests.
A note about homemade marinades - many people are intimidated to make their own marinades, and would rather opt for a store bought version. If I have learned one thing while following the Paleo diet, though, it’s that making your own is so much better.
Not only is the taste improved, but you control the quality of every single ingredient that goes into it. When you make your own, you dictate the ...

Strawberry Grapefruit Ice Cream
Ice cream – who doesn’t love it? As we enter the dog days of summer, sometimes you just want a cold, creamy treat that takes you back to childhood. But, the original dessert, 100% dairy and packed full of sugar, isn’t the healthiest option.
Don’t give up hope! This strawberry grapefruit version is sweet and tart, and full of healthy ingredients. Just because you want to eat healthy doesn’t mean you can’t have a treat now and then. Strawberry and grapefruit may not be the first flavor combination you think of, but give this refreshing combo a chance.
With banana and coconut milk, this dairy free alternative is as creamy as can be. Not to ...

What is Inflammation?
What is inflammation, any way?
When you first started learning about your diet, and how it relates to your health and well-being, you probably remember hearing the word “inflammation” a lot.
What does that word really mean?
In the most general sense, inflammation is the body’s way of protecting itself. If you’ve ever cut yourself, and noticed how the skin gets red and swollen around the injury, that’s inflammation.
Inflammation in action
When your cells are in danger, they send a signal to your immune system. Your immune system then sends its fighter to that area to battle off any foreign invaders and help begin the healing ...

Sliced Beet and Baby Arugula Salad
Tender greens paired with thinly sliced red and yellow beets is the perfect pairing to any spring meal.
Beets can be intimidating if you’ve never included them in your diet before, but don’t worry – they’re a delicious and colorful risk to take!
It’s important to know that beets will stain your hands (and when you eat them, they’ll stain your insides too…don’t be alarmed if you notice a pink or reddish tint after eating them.)
You’ll need to peel off the paper-y outside of the vegetable before eating them raw. Then, you just slice them up and throw them together with your greens. So simple.
Although we use them raw on this salad, ...

Mango Orange Spritzer
Soda can be a hard habit to quit. Despite all the negative evidence stacked against it, kicking the soda habit is not an easy thing to do.
I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this, but soda has an extremely high sugar content. Because of this, drinking it can lead to insulin resistance, metabolic dysfunction, and chronic inflammation in the body. Not to mention, soda literally has zero health-promoting qualities. There are no vitamins, minerals, fiber to be found in a can of this stuff. It’s also incredibly processed. It’s loaded down with a bunch of ingredients that I don’t even know how to pronounce. Because of these reasons, it’s best to ...
