The paleo diet is picking up steam – recently being adopted by the entire Lakers team. The initiative, spearheaded by Dr Gary Vitti was immediately embraced by NBA star Kobe Bryant.
“Kobe was really on board right away because, as he’s getting older, he knows he needs an edge and that nutrition can be one of them. Since he’s adopted it, he says he feels remarkably better.”
Bryant has credited the diet of lean meat and vegetables, and avoiding carbohydrates, especially sugar, with his remarkable late-career resurgence last year.
Once Kobe jumped on board – the rest of the Lakers crew came over quickly. The change in diet has done wonders for Laker center Dwight Howard who was:
“eating the equivalent of something like 23 Hershey bars a day. A lot of that was fruit, which is supposed to be good.” The problem: Too much sugar. Dwight would “have a lot of energy, then get these insulin spikes and crash really quick.” Now that he’s shifted to the diet advocated by Dr. Cate, he and the other players are enjoying renewed energy.
